Los Trances Open Space Preserve is open 1/2 an hour before sunrise to 1/2 an hour after sunset.

Description

The Page Mill Trail is located in the Los Trances Preserve on Page Mill Road close to Skyline Boulevard. The parking area at the trailhead is a pullout along the road where 5-6 cars can park. Another parking lot is further up the road, and you can take part of the Franciscan Loop to make it to the trailhead.

When you pass through the wooden fence, the Page Mill Trail immediately cuts to the right and follows the fence line along a singletrack trail through an open field. A sign indicates that the trail goes to the left and works its way through the field along a path through the tall grass. The trail climbs along a hillside before descending into the woods along a seasonal creek bed at roughly .2 miles. The narrow, dirt trail winds its way through the woods where wildflowers can be seen in the spring time. At half a mile, the trail meets up with the Franciscan Trail and goes to the right. The trail widens at this point and opens up a little bit, being more defined than other sections. Descending gently through the woods for the next 3/4 of a mile, the trail follows the creek bed for a while. Around the 1 mile mark, the trail emerges along a hillside where a small connector trail leads to a small pull out on Page Mill Road and a home sits just outside the preserve. You'll hear cars for the majority of the hike as the trail is close to the preserve boundary and the homes that sit just outside the preserve.

Entering the woods again, the trail continues to descend past the first Lost Creek Loop Trail trailhead on the left before the trail levels out at 1.3 miles where the Lost Creek Loop Trail meets up with the trail again. Going to the right, the Page Mill Trail descends to the creek bed and crosses the creek via a wooden bridge. Rolling along the hillsides for the 1.4 miles, the trail moves through woods and fields. At 2.3 miles, a small trail goes around a water tank and meets up with Page Mill Road. The main trail stays to the left and makes its way through a shrub lined corridor. Views of the surrounding hills come into view as the trail passes through fields. After 2.6 miles, the trail descends more steeply to the preserve boundary and continues through a field until it meets up with the PonyTracks Fire Road in Foothills Park. From here, your only option is to hike back up the Page Mill Trail back to your car.
