Description

From the trailhead at Main Street (Rt 202) in South Windham to the Otter Ponds in Standish, the trail is paved and runs alongside the tracks of the former Maine Central Railroad Mountain Division line. The trail from the Otter Ponds to the Johnson Field Recreation Area parking lot follows a gravel dirt road which during the summer is used to access a YMCA day camp.

The trail travels though woodlands and open fields, crossing 5 roads. The old railroad trestle spanning the Presumpscot River is a popular swimming hole for the locals.

If starting at the trailhead on Main Street in Windham, parking is available behind the post office just up the street. Do not park at the Blue Feeds store across the street.

Future plans for the Mountain Division trail are to expand the trail south towards Portland and connect with the 4 miles of trail in Fryeburg which would creative a 52 mile long trail.
