Features Views

Family Friendly Close to the visitor center and easily accessed from the road, this trail makes a great option for a short out and back or a longer loop with plenty to see along the way.

Description

The Golden Wall Trail is located in Red Canyon just northwest of the visitor center. The trail heads south from a small pullout on the south side of the road where parking is available. (Additional parking is available at the visitor center).

The trail passes through large groves of ponderosa pine and winds in and out of stunning rock walls composed of layers of red and yellow rock. There are several great viewpoints along the way where hikers can stop to take in views of Red Canyon. The trail can be combined with the Buckhorn Trail #33037 and the Red Canyon Bicycle Trail to make a loop.

The trail was named for the large section of vertical golden rock walls. There are also many unique spires, hoodoos, pinnacles and other formations along the trail.

This is the top part of the Buckhorn Trail. While not for those with acrophobia, it is not very dangerous for adults and well-behaved children. Only 10-20 yards have an actual cliff on one side.

My route. Golden Wall Trail to Castle Bridge to Buckhorn Trail and then parallel to the road to the trailhead. I did the hike counterclockwise.
