Need to Know
Unless only going a short distance up the canyon, a topographic map and knowledge of its use is essential.
Description
The trail begins from the north end of the parking lot for the Slaughter Canyon Cave. The
Slaughter Canyon Cave Trail branches off to the west not far from the start of this trail.
Hikers will head out into the mouth of Slaughter Canyon. The canyon is very large with several branches including West Slaughter, Middle Slaughter, and North Slaughter. The trail first goes up Middle Slaughter before turning into North Slaughter
and finally ending at the Guadalupe Ridge Trail.
The first 3 miles are seemingly flat, but around mile 3, the trail starts to climb more noticeably. From here, hikers have a steady mile long incline before the trail levels back out around mile 4. The last mile flattens back out for an easy hike to the junction with the Guadalupe Ridge Trail.
