Dogs Off-leash
Features
Birding · Fall Colors · River/Creek
Open year round, but trails are closed to foot traffic during the winter to keep the trails in good shape for x-country skiing and snowshoeing. Follow the "Friends of Great Bear" facebook pages for updates on when this change is implemented each year.
Overview
This is a good singletrack 10k loop located not too far outside of Syracuse. Even when the parking lot is full, the trails seem pretty empty.
Need to Know
If it is wet, the bridges can get slick and you'll want to use caution when crossing them.
Description
Follow the yellow arrows with "10K" written on them for this mellow singletrack loop that takes you through old tree farms and past abandoned buildings from the time the area was used to collect fresh spring water. The trail starts to the right of the covered sign right inside the park. Follow the arrows counterclockwise, starting out heading more or less north.
The arrows are easy to follow. The trails can be muddy at times. Always be alert for other users and horseback riders. The trails are well maintained and most creeks and boggy areas have bridges. This loop is well-marked so you should have no trouble finding your way.
