Description
Pott's Branch starts from second-to-last parking lot on Umstead Parkway. From here, the trail follows a paved pathway past the restrooms to the picnic area at the trailhead for
Sycamore Trail. Continue straight to the end of the picnic area and look for the trail to turn left, away from the lake and boathouse. Pay attention to the blazes to avoid missing the turn.
From here, the trail descends towards Sycamore Creek below the spillway from Big Lake. At the confluence of Pott's Branch and Sycamore Creek, the trail curves left and begins to follow its namesake creek upstream. n about three-quarters of a mile from the start, the trail intersects
Sycamore Trail just before that trail crosses Pott's Branch on a footbridge. As you continue upstream,
Sycamore Trail is across Pott's Branch.
The trail then turns left again and follows an unnamed tributary upstream a short ways passing the remains of an old dam. Past the dam, the trail heads through the picnic area back to the trailhead. The trailhead for
Oak Rock Trail is here as well.
