Description

Fun trail just off the parking lot at Katherine's Landing. The trail is very clearly marked with a stone lined path. What starts as a very basic trail out of the low land in the parking lot starts to get interesting when when you get to the first small hill. There the trail begins to meander around the base of a couple hills, around turns and through a wash, then you climb a short hill where the trail cuts across the side of a sandy, open slope. From this vantage point you can look back over the marina at Katherine's Landing. You drop down the other side and pass a Lake Mead ranger station of some sort.

Once you pass the ranger station the trail starts to climb uphill. At the top you get views up Lake Mohave and back towards the bottom of the lake. There's a somewhat steep descent on a shifty, sand and shale like rock. Be careful on this section. You wouldn't expect it based on how the trail starts. At the bottom of this hill is a wood board to walk across a narrow wash. At this point, the trail becomes less obvious. There are alot of donkeys and mountain goats that walk down to the lake to drink so their trails start to become confused with this trail. But don't worry! It's not that big of an area and would be hard to get lost out there. Just pay attention to which side the lake is on on your way out and back and you'll be fine.

At the base of the hill where the board crosses the wash, go straight up the trail on the next hill rather than turn left. Of course, if you do turn left, you're on a different variation of this trail and you'll head over a dune to the edge of the lake. If you do that, turn up lake and walk along the shore until you reach a beach with an outhouse. Walk up that dune to the top of the hill and you'll reconnect with the Lake View Trail. You can continue in the direction of up lake and walk to the edge of the water in Telephone Cove which you can see just in the distance. It's got some buoy's floating in it. It's easy to see the direction to head and the trail is pretty obvious but this part is less traveled on so won't seem quite as established as where you started.

When you're done with your hike, put the lake on the other side of you and head back on the trails toward Katherine's Landing.

If it's a warm day - make sure you have lots of water. If it's a hot day - I'd recommend you skip the trail. It gets really, really hot and dry out there.

Near the beginning of the trail before the Ranger substation. You enter the hills and dunes past this point.
