Description

Why hike at Big Bear? Beautiful trails are in seemingly endless supply! And Mother of Crack is a perfect example. It has a few challenging rock features to navigate around, but it is mostly a trail of intermediate difficulty. Take this one in the indicated direction, and it's a moderate ascent with a tad of downhill. All of it is enjoyable. If combined with Fern and Race Loop it's easy to make a short loop.

For the direction shown here, access Mother of Crack as you begin to ascend the Race Loop doubletrack. Its marked purple and takes off on the left side and begins its ascent. Stay to the right as you reach the airstrip area to continue on the Fern Trail.
