Overview

This beachside route is perfect for visitors and locals alike, and offers an experience unlike any other. Enjoy the best that both the oceanic and terrestrial environments have to offer along this rolling trail.

Need to Know

Main surf beaches can have very strong currents and are unpatrolled most of the year. Use caution if you're planning to veer into the water. During warmer months, always carry a snake bandage. Mobile reception is not available for the entire trail.

Description

Starting from Otford Train Station, the trail heads north until reaching Garie Beach and further on Wattamolla Beach. On this scenic beachside trail, visitors will travel south to north along the length of the Royal National Park. Although this track hosts an annual race in September, I think it's best enjoyed at quieter times and winter when the annual whale migration is on. During this time, whales and pods of dolphins can be spotted.

Also spend some time at Jibbon Beach where ancient Aboriginal rock art can be found dating back thousands of years. In addition to the aboriginal art, take advantage of the great swimming spots that the beaches of Bundeena and the very nice Jibbon Beach provide.

Some things to note: wattamolla beach is accessible from car so tons of people there. Paved trails for the most part. Big up hill at south end. 17.8mi

2-days hike, backcountry camping. Easy short 1st day, rainy 2nd day but astonishing cliff views. Populated end of trail due to Wedding Cake cliff.
