Trail is easy walking. The log crossing, though, is unsuitable for small children. And some adults.
Description
I think the gps track here is wrong. If you just follow the beaten path you can't get lost. Eventually you run into the banks of the river, which are covered with boulders, cobbles, and sand. If the water level is high that's as far as you can go unless you thrash your way through the bushes. If you do go further the trail becomes less obvious. At 4.2 miles the trail just quits at a boulder-strewn beach. Even in September the snow-melt water compels respect as it crashes through channels.
From the parking lot is a short, narrow steep trail going NE that takes you to a pretty gorge in Ruth Creek. The short, narrow steep trail going SW takes you to a long, narrow log across the creek that takes you to the trail, where you'll find the trail register.
Flora & Fauna
Mostly fir, hemlock, and cedar trees and water-loving shrubs. Part of the trail is on an abandoned logging rail path where alders predominate.
