Description

From Panther Ridge, Clay Hill Trail descends sharply through stunning old growth forests to the historic Thomas Homestead, which has a long human history. From the homestead, the trail winds through a unique black oak savanna to the Rogue River Trail.

Clay Hill Trail is primitive and faint in some sections where it follows the crest of the ridge. Long sections of the trail had sloughed away, filled in with wind throw and brushed in until 2015 when Siskiyou Mountain Club crews resuscitated it. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
