Description

Most people take this trail this from south to north. It begins with a few easy switchbacks out of the Cusick Creek drainage, then winds through aspens before side-hilling out onto a ridge overlooking town. Look back toward the draw you just ascended out of, and you might see a moose.

From the overlook the trail turns back west across the ridge, winds through the trees in the bottom of the draw again, then kicks out to a few more switchbacks before cresting the ridge at the top. There's normally a snow drift at the top in the spring, but it's easy to cross.

The downhill begins along a sidehill through a few rocky sections, then turns the corner on the ridge where the fun begins. Two tight switchbacks at the top, a handful of rock slides, then on to a series of 9 more switchbacks in short succession.

After the switchbacks the trail heads back toward town, alternating through wooded draws and open hillsides. There's one last set of switchbacks near the end. It's a bit steep, and some people have taken to shortcutting straight down the ridge. Please stay on the trail.

There is also a fork here, and the left branch takes you to upper Sullivan's. Stay right to finish out Over The Top.
