Overview
This a relatively easy hike through open desert terrain, leading to a special view of grand rock formations in Cathedral Valley.
Description
Starting from the Lower Cathedral Valley Overlook Trail Parking Area, follow the trail as it leads across a flat, brushy area and up a steep climb to a saddle high above Lower Cathedral Valley. There is a good view of the Temple of the Sun and a partial view of the Temple of the Moon.
Those wishing to experience a better view of the Temple of the Moon can reach a second saddle by hiking back to the base of the cliffs and going east through a wash to a hiker-made trail that climbs steeply to the Lower Cathedral Valley East Overlook. This viewpoint sports better views of the Temples, but offers a less sweeping panorama.
