Kids will love Chimney Rock Canyon's short length and towering sandstone walls.
Description
Chimney Rock Canyon is quite beautiful, especially in early morning when the light reflects off the northwest wall and the southeast wall basks in the reflected glow. The red-coated Wingate Sandstone cliffs on both sides soar upwards about 350 feet. The floor of the canyon makes for easy navigation with no major obstacles, while lush and diverse vegetation adds to the ambiance. There are three side canyons that enter from the left, but the main canyon is easy to follow.
Starting from the junction with the
Chimney Rock Trail, head down the primitive path to the wash below. Follow the wash for roughly a mile before reaching a signed junction with Spring Canyon and the trail's end. Those wishing to return to their car at the
Chimney Rock Trail Parking Area can simply return the way they came. For those who wish to extend their journey, see
Lower Spring Canyon.
