Description

To access this trail, park at the Kneeling Camel Overlook and head toward the old Ranger Station by taking a short spur to the east and looking for the trail on your left. The trail, which is actually an old service road, starts here.

After 0.75 miles, the trail heads past a stock pond. This pond is the result of one of a few springs that are located around the rim of the Black Canyon.

At around 1.2 miles from the start, there is an optional extension on the Overlook Loop, that heads to the southwest. This adds ~1.50 miles with two nice overlooks near the canyon edge.

For this trail, continue on for another ~1.2 miles until you arrive at a stock fence. Turn right (south) here and follow the fence for another 0.25 miles until you arrive at the canyon's rim.

Deadhorse Gulch is the vast drainage to the east of the overlook and fence. Directly behind you (north) and slightly above the drainage is Poison Spring Hill which lies on private property.
