Description
This trail begins at Eagle Creek Campground. There is a five dollar fee to park at the trailhead.
The first section is a gentle uphill along Eagle Creek, but within half a mile the trail becomes fairly steep. Starting about three-quarters of a mile in, there is a section of narrow trail with a steep drop and cables to hold on to, which lasts about a quarter mile.
About two miles in there is an option to take a side trail to visit Punchbowl Falls.
The trail continues following Eagle Creek under dense forest to High Bridge which traverses the gorge about 150 feet above the creek. From High Bridge the trail heads southeast to the junction with Eagle Benson Trail #434.
Six miles in is Tunnel Falls, where the trail runs behind a very large waterfall. From Tunnel Falls, the trail continues along the creek for about another mile and half to a junction with
Eagle Tanner Trail #433. From there the trail leaves Eagle Creek and climbs around a ridge. You'll continue climbing steadily all the way to the trail's end at Wahtum Lake where the trail ends at Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).
The trail is variously a narrow strip along exposed cliffs, smooth track through woods, rocky areas, and talus slopes.
