Description
The Green River Bluffs Trail begins near the
River Styx Spring Trail and traverses along the Green River for most of the duration. The trail is singletrack with many roots and rocks to negotiate. Starting off mellow, the Green River will stay on your left side and offer great views along the way.
Roughly a third of the way in, the fun starts once you hit the first climb. The steep switchbacks bring you above the riverside bluffs and the intersection with the
Dixon Cave Trail, but stay the course, don't turn back now! The trail mellows out again as you continue along the river, with several great overlooks.
At this point, the trail turns right, away from the river, and the second climb starts. It's a long, slow burn of a half mile climb in open forest that is spectacular. When you reach the road and cottages area, you've earned a break! Return to the visitor center via the road.
