Description

You can traverse Trail 100 in either direction; starting from the trailhead in a public park under the North Mountain Preserve or starting from a trailhead along Tatum Blvd, just south of Doubletree Ranch Rd. It is the longest single trail in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, but not very challenging. There are a few steep sections, but all are very short and far in between.

Along the trail, there are three well-used trailheads from which most of the shorter trails in Phoenix leave, so Trail 100 can be broken up into multiple shorter outings should that be desirable.

Sections of Trail 100 pass very close to residential areas, so it is by no means an 'escape into nature' route, though that would be asking a lot for any route in the middle of a city.

The trail surface is rock and dirt, as are other trails in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.

Flora & Fauna

Typical desert plants - such as cacti, agave, and small shrubs - are abundant in the Preserve. In the spring, wildflowers can also be seen.
