Description

This wonderful short trail along the ridgeline gives you great views in all directions, including down to Crescent Lake and across the lake to Lamentation Mountain.

The initial climb past the dam is rather steep, ascending about 300 feet in about a quarter mile. It's a path the whole way, though, with only a short section on traprock to scramble over. The trail then follows the cliff edge for a little bit before entering into more forested areas as you descend the ridge.

This trail is also part of the blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail, which is part of the New England National Scenic Trail.

There's currently an active campaign underway to preserve this trail, as the land it's on is owned by the Suzio Quarry. You can see the quarry on the east side of the ridge, creeping closer as time goes by. This Facebook group organizes action to preserve the trail, and you can read a great editorial on the subject from the local paper.
