Description

The trail begins in a successional forest behind the Great Barn at Historic Stagville. After winding through willow oaks and loblolly pine, the trail emerges into a mature loblolly pine forest with massive mature pines. The trail then emerges into an active restoration area where TLC is restoring a pine savanna. The trail offers unique views of the savanna and the flowering plants and grasses in the understory.

The trail then continues next to an old road that was once part of the Stagville Plantation before descending through a mature hardwood forest and crossing a large stream. The trail continues a short distance further before connecting to the Walker Trail.

The cedar bridges, handcrafted from local cedar by TLC staff, are great to have around Horton Grove Nature Preserve, especially when it's been raining.
