Free parking and access. The parking lot and trail are open daily from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm. No bicycles or motorized vehicles allowed. Stay on the trail to protect the wildlife and yourself. The trail is not accessible to wheelchairs. The parking lot is paved and has spaces for 18 cars with 1 handicap spot. A year round porta-potty is available. There is no potable water source. Pets are permitted on a leash (6' or shorter).
Description
This trail segment connects the south parking lot to the Cowles Bog trail system. See the
Cowles Bog Trail page for the featured hike at Cowles Bog. Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves, and tuck long pants into socks to avoid ticks and poison ivy.
This parking lot also serves the Calumet Rail Trail and Porter Brickyard Bike Trail.
Indiana Dunes National Park (formerly national lakeshore) was established to preserve portions of the Indiana Dunes and other areas of scenic, scientific, historic and recreational value. Up to two million annual visitors enjoy the park's 15,000 acres of wetlands, prairies, sand dunes, oak savannas, forests, and historic sites.
