Description

An easy hiking road which winds through heavily wooded areas on both sides of it.

The upper section of Rapidan Road is mainly used by park maintenance and also the parks shuttle tours of Camp Hoover (or Rapidan Camp), the former presidential retreat created by President Hoover. Access to the retreat is from Camp Hoover Road which is located just off Rapidan Road.

The lower section of Rapidan Road ends in Madison County (Criglersville) at VA Rt.649. It is open to public motor vehicle traffic and provides access to only a portion of the park, as well as the Rapidan State Wildlife Management Area, Rapidan Camps, Inc. (a private camp along the road), and a hiker/equestrian trailhead below the former Presidential Retreat.
