A flat easy trail with plenty of entertainment along the way!
Overview
City Park is located right in the heart of downtown. It's an awesome park to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Need to Know
Bring your camera because you never know what great views you'll see of downtown or what animals you'll see at the nearby
Denver Zoo.
Description
This hike starts at the parking lot next to the tennis courts, so if you don't live in the area you can park in the parking lot and start there.
Hike straight up the middle of the tennis courts. This short connecting trail will eventually dead end at the
Mile High Loop where you'll have the option to turn left or right onto the sidewalk that parallels York Street. If you turn right first, you'll pass the zoo immediately, or you can take a left and hike around City Park first. I enjoy turning left and hiking around City Park because hiking past the Zoo at the end of the hike is always rewarding as you can sometimes hear the animals inside!
The trail is a mix of cement/sidewalks and dirt trails. If you don't want to hike along 17th Street or Colorado Blvd., there are plenty of options to take a turn into the park and hike along the sidewalks or the paved roads. Regardless of where you hike, the views of downtown are really awesome, especially at sunset with the mountains in the background.
