Family Friendly
Endless blueberry picking in season and areas with unobstructed views for miles, this medium-length journey with an easy grade is a great option for the whole family.
Description
The McKinley Bar trail starts in open areas with great views (on clear days) of the Alaska Range and Denali with little altitude change throughout the hike. There are great picture taking opportunities as you pass creeks and lakes before reaching thick pine forests about one mile into the trail.
You lose all views of anything but evergreen trees once you reach the forests. The trail ends when you come out of the thick pine trees at the McKinley River. This is a great spot to see wildlife - in the open areas, you can see for miles.
Flora & Fauna
The trail winds through open fields with great flower viewing when it is the right season and then heads into thick pine tree forests before getting to the McKinley River.
