Description
Begin by peeling to the south (towards Gore Creek) off of the Gore Creek Valley Trail paved recreation path. After winding through a short rocky, grass-covered section along the river, this mostly flat, smooth singletrack continues through an open meadow with beautiful views of the valley. At slightly less than 1 mile from the start of the singletrack, near the end of the open meadow, the singletrack crosses the paved recreation path, with the two trail ends separated by a brief section of back-tracking west along the paved path.
To re-find the north section of the trail, hike about 40 yards west along the paved path until you see the trail re-appear headed northeast. The section to the north of the recreation path becomes hillier with small rollers and more technical sections. You'll move away from Gore Creek and wind through the aspens on the slope north of the river. The path passes briefly through the Memorial Park before heading back into the woods, then ending in a neighborhood cul-de-sac at Lupine Drive with an option to hike further on the paved roads of the neighborhood.
This trail provides a pleasant alternative to the bike path with a softer surface, fewer people, and more engaging terrain.
Flora & Fauna
Beautiful wildflowers in spring/summer and gorgeous views of the aspens through early October. There is a beaver dam in the pond near the start and an abundance of hummingbirds (early summer), magpies, ravens, and chipmunks.
