Description

Sidetracking from the main Cardiac Hill trail, South Cardiac Hill crests one of the highest points in the eastern foothills and is an interesting, occasionally technical diversion.

From the east side, the trail begins at the intersection with Castner Range Fence Line. It begins as a rocky climb to the top of a ridge, switching back twice at it goes. Make sure to turn around to enjoy the view toward the east at the top near a small clearing. The trail continues along the top of the ridge for a short distance before descending along the northern face. The remainder of the trail is smoother than the initial segment, but it crosses a few wash out areas with steep drop-offs, so use caution.

At the end, the trail merges back into Cardiac Hill and continues west towards Blue Moon.

Flora & Fauna

Sotols, yuccas, barrel cactus and other cacti. Lizards, rabbits and birds.
