Description

Access to this trail can be a bit tricky, as this trail is best reached via the Minong Ridge Trail, or the Greenstone Ridge Trail. It can also be reached from the McCargoe Campground, where there is a quick climb from the start to get you up from the trailhead. This trail is well maintained by the NPS crew with rain runoffs to prevent too much mud. As you descend toward the east side of Lake Chickenbone keep your eyes toward the lake where you may be lucky to see a moose feeding in the bog by the trail side.

As you continue on the east side of the lake there is a well maintained boardwalk to get you through the boggy area at the end of the lake.

The trail then climbs up toward the Greenstone Ridge Trail. This is where we "shared" the trail with a bull moose that had just finished feeding at the lake's edge.
