Family Friendly
Although this trail climbs steeply, its short length and eye-popping views make it a popular route for families with older kids.
Snow covers this trail from autumn until early summer. Expect snow on upper portions of the trail until late July.
Description
With easy access from Crater Lake Lodge and the Rim Village, this popular trail heads east, up the ridge above Crater Lake's south shore. As you ascend the ridge, enjoy wildflowers and expansive views south to Crater Peak and beyond.
The trail turns north and climbs Garfield Peak's northwestern flank. Atop the ridge, the trail turns eastward again up to the summit. From here, soak in the panoramic view of the entire lake, Wizard Island,
Phantom Ship and the high peaks of the south Cascades.
Flora & Fauna
The lower portion of the trail goes through fir and hemlock trees. As it ascends above the trees onto the rocky slope, look for marmots, pikas and alpine wildflowers.
