From the left side of the Swamp Canyon overlook pullout (about 5 miles south of the visitor center), join the marked Sheep Creek Connecting Trail when it branches from the Swamp Canyon Connecting Trail. Head north through dense forest eventually circumnavigating a prominent butte.

After the first flat mile above the rim, descend off the lip into the Sheep Creek drainage. Pass a handful of hoodoos and traverse a wooded canyon before meeting the Under-the-Rim Trail and the Sheep Creek Trail at a 4-way intersection at the canyon bottom.

This trail was formerly used for moving sheep around to different grazing areas.

If you're planning to make a loop that combines Sheep Creek Connecting Trail, Under-the-Rim Trail and the Swamp Canyon Connecting Trail, the preferred direction is clockwise.
