Description

Cole's Kettle is a geographic formation from the glacial age. All of the surrounding forest drains into the kettle and then into the ground water for nearby wells. That is why this is such an important feature to keep pristine. If any more development encroached on it, it would threaten not only the wildlife but also the human habitation that depends on the clean groundwater for wells.

Though marshy and wet in some places, this loop is usually passable, as boardwalks keep your feet out of the worst of the muck. It's advisable to stash an extra pair of shoes in the car if you're planning on hitting this trail after a heavy rain.
