Description

In the summer months, the ferry from Stonington, ME stops at the Duck Harbor campground and provides better access to this hike. If you're on Isle Au Haut in the off-season, the trailhead can still be reached by hiking from the town landing and NPS ranger's station along the Duck Harbor Trail.

The trail leads from the Duck Harbor Campground across the rocky Duck Harbor Mountain to the opposite side of the island. The views are well worth the challenging climb to the top of Duck Harbor Mountain. Despite being in a solitary part of Acadia National Park, this trail is well maintained and easy to follow. Rocky cairns adorn the barren mountain in places where the trail may not be immediately apparent.
