Aside from the fact that from most starting points it is at least one to two miles of gradual climbing, there is much to explore along this ridge. Sit and snack at the top before heading down.
Description
All trails to Sweeney
Ridge are a climb, but sticking with it to reach the top has its rewards.
There are several ways to access the Sweeney
Ridge Trail. Starting from
Sneath Lane, you are on a paved road all the way. The
Baquiano Trail is singletrack and both Notch and
Mori Ridge Trail are doubletrack. Each of these trails leads to the Sweeney
Ridge Trail, which is your reward for climbing to the ridge.
Head south once you've gained the ridge. From there, you'll be on the Sweeney
Ridge Trail. Atop the ridge, you are exposed to all the elements. The trail will be gently rolling, especially compared to your climb to the ridge. The way is mostly free of obstacles, giving you a chance to enjoy the spectacular views. On a clear day, visitors can view the Farallone Islands, Mount Tamalpais, San Francisco and more.
Be sure to check out the San Francisco Bay Portola Discovery Site.
Flora & Fauna
Wildflowers galore in the spring. Plenty of ridge meadows all around.
