Description

If you're looking for a quick hike with nice views near Northeast Harbor, it's hard to beat Parkman Mountain. The trail starts just north of Upper Hadlock Pond (across Route 3 from the Goat Trail trailhead).

As you follow the trail through the woods, you'll cross several carriage roads. Watch out for horses and bike riders! Follow the trail to the top of Parkman Mountain. At 941 feet, Parkman is one of the smaller mountains on Mount Desert Island, but the views of the Cranberry Isles from the rocky summit are definitely worth it. For a bit of variation on the return trip, loop back to the trailhead via the Bald Peak Trail.

The trail passes under this slab. I used a light to go through it to make sure I didn't spook an animal that might be hanging out in it. Definitely a highlight of the hike.
