This is a challenging singletrack trail behind
Mount Herman through Limbaugh Valley. The trail starts off
Mount Herman Rd. There's ample parking at the base or park further down the mountain and enjoy a leisurely hike up
Mount Herman Rd to warm-up.
From the start point, the trail immediately heads up several steep, gravely climbs of >10%. The trail then continues to climb up to a ridge before dropping into Limbaugh Valley after a series of narrow switchbacks and traverses.
Once in the valley, the track becomes wonderful and smooth fluid through meadows and treed segments. There are a few stream crossings that appear with little warning. There are few opportunities to get lost, except as the trail curves around the north end of
Mount Herman and begins to drop down into an old, rocky mining grade. This grade will eventually end in private property, so is not an option. Look for a steep trail that heads south, up and across the face of
Mount Herman. This will keep you out of private property.
For the best hike, I recommend parking at the trailhead at
Mount Herman Rd & Nursery Rd and using the long climb to the start of the trail to warm-up.
Overall, this trail is not a cakewalk, but the trip through the valley makes it worthwhile.
