Description

This trail intersects the Winsor National Recreation Trail at the Rio Nambe crossing. Follow the babbling creek up and up to the beautiful lake almost 1000 feet above the trail intersection. The sometimes rocky and sometimes muddy trail traces the stream as it cascades down the mountain.

Once at the top you are rewarded with a spectacular view of the lake and the cirque wrapping around and towering over the water. This is definitely a hands on the knees uphill. Once you reach the lake, you can continue to climb up without the benefit of a trail or turn around and head back down with a big smile on your face.

I followed Val's route, and I made it to the lake thanks to good boots, but there is no trail from Lake Peak and the descent was a loose scramble. 7.5mi
