Start early and end early. The weather can turn very quickly on this ridge.

Description

This trail follows the Pecos Wilderness boundary fence line up the ridge from the intersection with the Winsor National Recreation Trail.

From the gate leading into the Pecos Wilderness Area follow the trail to the right or uphill along the fence line. As you climb you'll be treated to multiple vistas overlooking the Nambe drainage. The views are fantastic and resplendent with rocky mountains surrounding the crystalline lake below.

The trail is somewhat steep in sections as it crest two humps on the ridgeline. Eventually, you'll break free of the treeline and work your way up the grassy slope to Deception Peak and the junction with the Skyline Trail #251. This open area is generally wind scoured of all snow in the winter and can be a bad spot to be caught out when the lightning starts to look for targets...
