Need to Know
This is not family friendly for young kids. The trail is too narrow and the drop-off is too steep. This trail is not ADA accessible.
Description
This trail starts at the end of Carson Street in the historic town of Genoa, NV. Be prepared for some serious climbing, this trail has an average pitch of 500' per mile. Lower Genoa Canyon Trail consists of some tight switchbacks on a steep sidehill and can be narrow in places. Apart from the physical challenge, exposure can be intimidating to some hikers. The switchbacks culminate in a knife edge ridge. While the ridge is not that hard, the feeling of exposure will add some excitement to the hike.
The
Genoa Loop can be used in either direction which means that some will enjoy hiking down the knife edge and through the switchbacks. Warning signs alert hikers to the challenging terrain ahead. However, beautiful views of the Carson Valley will reward hikers who make it to the higher elevations on the trail. The lower canyon faces northeast which means that it will have full sun exposure in the morning and shade late in the day. Use this to your advantage depending on the season you'll be hiking in.
