Description

From KY 15, Tunnel Ridge Road is a five-mile ridgetop road. The last two miles are gated and closed to vehicular traffic (see Tunnel Ridge Road North), and the initial three miles can be very busy on weekends and holidays.

At times, this road has been closed to vehicular traffic by the US Forest Service. When it is gated near KY 15, the road becomes a fantastic ridge hike with numerous options of trails to explore.

Tunnel Ridge Road is the only connection between the trails in the Grays Arch area (Rough Trail and the Sheltowee Trace) and the Auxier Ridge area at the end of the driveable road. Because of that, it is also a key hiking feature in the area.

It is recommended that if you choose to hike this portion of Tunnel Ridge you choose off-peak times.
