Description
Starting from Gallitzin State Park, the Lost Turkey Trail is a 26-mile trail that brings hikers through State Game Lands and into Blue Knob State Park.
The first 13 miles of the trail are the easiest as they travel through Gallitzin State Forest along a mountain ridge bookended by rolling, mildly technical terrain. With several long, steady uphills, these miles act as a preamble to the second half, which is up and down many different peaks and crosses several wider streams.
At mile 24 (along Hog Back Ridge) there is a monument built to two children who got lost in the mountains and perished in 1856. The last three miles are a 1,400-foot challenge up strap inclines when your legs are their weakest. The trail ends at Herman Point in Blue Knob State Park. The views from the end are amazing, hopefully you have enough energy to enjoy them!
