Features Views

Wunderlich is closed to bikes, but most of it - including this trail - is open to equestrians.

Description

From the parking lot, this trail ascends gradually through redwood forest up to The Meadows, where you can enjoy sweeping views of the bay before a short downhill brings you to Alambique Trail. It's about halfway between singletrack and doubletrack - wide enough for two people at most points, but narrower than most other trails in the park.

To navigate through The Meadows junction coming up from Woodside Road, bear right as you pass the bench and head toward the trail sign to continue on Bear Gulch. Ignore what looks like another trail further to the right - it doesn't continue very far and is not actually a trail.

If approaching The Meadows from Alambique Trail, head toward the gate to the left of the bench, where Bear Gulch continues down into the forest.

Flora & Fauna

Second and third generation redwood forest, evergreen forest, chaparral. Poison oak can be plentiful, but trails are generally clear. You might see deer (very common), raccoons, black squirrels, and occasionally a bobcat, fox, coyote, or even mountain lion (very rare).

Benches like this one on the Redwood Trail, can be found sprinkled throughout Wunderlich Park. They are a good place to take a break as many trails climb up into the park.
