Description
Notch Trail shares the start of
Family Trail before making a right hander off the Plum Creek Rd. around 0.3 miles in. The lower mile consists of nice singletrack on an easy grade. As you wind your way up you'll make many turns separated by long straights through the trees.
You eventually pop out on a section of doubletrack and the sign will point you to the right. Scamper up the doubletrack until the singletrack splits off and works around this lower ridge line. In the spring, this is one of the better spots for wildflowers. The trail will lead back to the doubletrack midway up a grunt of a short climb. This is only about 10m and then levels out before a sharp left-hand turn takes you up the more difficult, second half of Notch Trail.
Once you make this left the trail jumps into the harder category. Not only is this steeper but you'll find several more roots and rocks to watch out for. This is all worth it though because the scenery is first rate. Keep slogging away until you hit the final intersection, where the trail T's. Go right, it's just better, and continue to the Overlook. The trail loops around the overlook, go either direction, both have great views.
