Family Friendly This trail is a short climb to Mt. Pinos, which is great for the entire family. Plus, the views at the top are amazing.

Weather might restrict trail usage with snow in winter and early spring.

Description

Starting from the Mt. Pinos Nordic Base parking lot, climb a steady dirt trail to the summit of Mt. Pinos. At the top, enjoy some great views that include the San Joaquin Valley to the north, the Tehachapis to the east, and the Carrizo Plain and Temblor Mountains to the northwest.

The road used to be open to the vehicular traffic, but was closed to motorized traffic once the movement to save the Condors took place. This is a great hike for any level, although the high altitude might get to some. Be sure to drink plenty of water and take as many breaks as you need.

Flora & Fauna

Sub-alpine forest typical of Los Padres National Forest.

The parking area for the start. This is looking back towards the entrance. The trailhead is towards the right, where that dark SUV is.

Beautiful snowy hike in snowshoes. Very windy in exposed area, with blowing snow reducing visibility. Snowpack at 1-3 feet. 4mi — 3h 00m
