Description
This short, steep, and eminently sweet trail leads off the very popular
South Fork Spanish Creek Trail into the high country of the Spanish Peaks. Your destination at the top is filled with a myriad of small backcountry lakes each with plenty of nooks and crannies to camp, fish, watch for wildlife, or paint in solitude.
Leaving the Spanish Creek trailhead up to Jerome Rock Lakes along Falls Creek. You'll be almost immediately rewarded with a massive waterfall well worth stopping and enjoying. Take a rest and a few breaths for there are switchbacks aplenty in your near future. Over the course of this trails five miles you'll climb around 2,000 feet.
After the last switchback, take a sigh of relief and begin the fun boulder hopping, downed log climbing and stream jumping up to the Jerome Rock Lakes off-trail to the west. Explore the headwaters of Falls Creek and generally wander and meander until you find a suitable camping spot to spend the night out under the stars.
