“A trail through sand dunes and scrub brush to a point inside the bay.
”
Family Friendly
Although a longer trail, this hike offers a nice calm beach at the end of the trail, along with unique wildlife along the way.
This is part of the Florida State Park system. A small per vehicle fee is charged to access the area.
Description
Beginning at the Sugar Hill parking area, follow the trail exiting the south-western portion of the complex. The trail heads west and promptly crosses the road to the northern side of the island. Continue on the trail as it crosses sand dunes, then meanders through scrub brush and eventually some pine trees on its way to Gap Point on Apalachicola Bay.
At Gap Point, there is plenty to do. Bring a swimsuit, fishing gear, and even a net to catch oysters. Note that fishing licenses are required within state waters.
To return to the parking area, retrace your steps.
