Leaving from Helena, park in the large parking area on Davis Gulch about a mile up the dirt road on your right. Cross the road and look for the trail a little further up the road.
The trail starts climbing on a long switchback before it hugs the contours of the mountain and becomes less steep. Continue through a forested section before breaking out into the open where you'll start the climb in earnest. The trail tops out at the peak of the 5460 ft Mt. Ascension with views in all directions.
