The section that goes through Mountain Rest Golf Course is closed from April to November.
Description
Bonticou Road begins near the wooden bridge by Mountain Rest Golf Course. It continues through the golf course (note restriction above), and then into Mohonk Preserve property. It departs the golf course and then traverses the side of a steep hill. The first intersection is with a road teeing in from the right and leading to the
Northeast Trail. After another mile or so,
Cedar Drive intersects from the left. Just a few hundred yards further, Bonticou Path (red-blazes) tees in from the right. Bonticou Road now begins a loop towards Bonticou Crag. At the apex of the loop, a yellow-blazed trail called
Bonticou Ascent Path heads straight up a talus pile to a notch in the bluff, providing access and a beautiful view from the top of the crag.
Bonticou Road continues its loop and intersects
Cedar Drive again, this time as a four-way intersection.
Crag Trail (red blazes) also intersects here. Continue straight on Bonticou Road.
Spring Farm Road will intersect from the right, and then continue to the left. At this intersection, keep right on Bonticou Road. From here the carriage-road crosses Mohonk Road (Country Road 6) and enters Mohonk Mountain House property. Bonticou Road dead ends into a three-way intersection with
North Lookout Road on the left and
Rock Rift Road on the right.
