Overview
This hike starts at a relatively high elevation so the necessary gains to the lakes region are quite do-able.
Description
Drive up the majorly switchbacking road to the Sweeney Creek Trailhead, shoulder your packs, and hit the trail. The trail is located high on the side wall of the valley and provided glorious views across the valley to the treed and rocky slopes opposite you.
The climb toward Sweeney Lake is on a wonderful trail that passes through a diverse set of flora that changes with each foot of elevation gained. The trail is dotted with short side paths that step out onto rocky promontories providing views down and across valley.
Multiple lakes toward the end of the trail provide for a variety of good camping. There is plenty of room for as many people wish to camp so finding your own space and solitude isn't a problem. Exploration for day trips as well as fishing will keep the leisurely or busy-body camper full of things to do.
