Description

Park your car at the carpark on Lomond Crescent. The access road is obvious and sign posted. Watch for flying mountain bikers passing over the road since their trails crisscross this area. Be careful which track you take down. There are numerous vehicle, walking and biking tracks low down.

Head upwards staying on the vehicle sized track, you may pass walkers on the way. At midway clearing, there is a maze of tracks and you'll probably see more mountain bikers. There is a drinking fountain here which can be quite useful.

Continue up the access road 100 metres until you see a green sign on your left which leads you into a steeper and much more narrow track. This track is usually dark even during daytime as you enter the towering Douglas fir forest. Eventually, you emerge out of the forest and into the alpine tussocks. Keep going until you hit a fork. At this point, you turn left and are now on the Ben Lomond Track.

Flora & Fauna

By the main tree in this area is the Douglas Fir with small pockets of native bush.
