This section of the Patapsco Thru Trail branches off the Pickall Trail as it heads into the hills away from the Patapsco. The trail follows the river below the Route 40 overpass leading to a beautiful view of the Patapsco Valley at the base of Union Dam Trail. From here the trail heads up into a steep climb of the ridge into Oella. Once ascended on the ridge the trail levels out and is relatively easy, following the river south before leading back down the ridge and connecting with the Oella Mill Race Trail.
