Reaching this trail takes a little hiking, but the views near the water are well worth the effort!
Description
Beginning at the trailhead where Turnhole Bend intersects with the
Buffalo Creek Trail, this is a fun 2-mile descent along a ridgeline surrounded by old-growth Kentucky forest. The ridge offers many good vantage points to view the hollows and peeks at the Green River below.
At the end of the trail is a short climb up to the Turnhole Bend Campsite... one of the best campsites in the park, be sure to get your reservations, it's worth it. If unoccupied, it's the perfect place to grab a snack and watch the river which surrounds you on all three sides.
Turning around, what comes down, must go up. It's all uphill from here.
To add more variety, the excellent
Sal Hollow Trail intersects the Turnhole Bend Trail at the midway point, offering several options and loop possibilities to the left & right.
